In 2021/22, I was responsible to develop the structural frame for Swissloop prototype Lavinia Heisenberg.
In July 2022, Lavinia Heisenberg was awarded with Best Mechanical System and Best Propulsion at the European Hyperloop Week in Delft, the Netherlands.
The chassis, made from a sandwich construction featuring 1.5 mm 6082 brushed Aluminium sheets and PMI foam core, was primarily designed to be stiff and durable to handle cargo transportation. Additionally, a CFRP sandwich board poses as the structural backbone of Lavinia Heisenberg’s linear motor. The board features 14 layers of +/- 45 ° CFRP layers, giving it the needed torsional stiffness. The motor backbone and chassis are laterally decoupled to isolate motor and chassis. By allowing for these displacements, excessive loads are avoided and larger rail alignment tolerances can be accepted.
